Yves Saint Laurent Mon Paris- This perfume was just released in the fall of 2016, it is a fruity, sweet scent that represents a love so intense that it turns your world upside down. This scent really does remind me of love, and it brings me back to the feeling for my high school French class, I'd say this is my ultimate favorite at the moment.
Top notes: Strawberry, Raspberry, Pear, Calabrian Bergamot, Calone, Orange, Tangerine.
Middle Notes: Datura, Peony, Orange Blossom, Jasmine Sambac, Chinese Jasmine.
Base Notes: Indonesian Patchouli Leaf, White Musk, Ambroxan, Patchouli, Cedar, Moss, Vanilla.
Lancome Hypnose- This fragrance was released in 2005, it is a vanilla, somewhat floral scent. The bottle of the perfume (like most Lancome fragrances) has a bit of a story, it was designed to imitate the silhouette of a woman, and the color of it is supposed to be hypnotizing like a woman's tender blue eyes. This one makes me feel warm and fuzzy. It makes me a bit nostalgic as my mother always wore a vanilla based scent when I was growing up. I think this is a great winter scent since it is rather warm. At the moment this is my second favorite.
Top Note: Passion Flower.
Middle Notes: Jasmine, Gardenia.
Base Notes: Vetiver, Vanilla.
Giorgio Armani Acqua Di Gioia- This perfume was released in the summer of 2010, it is supposed to take you to the crisp beaches of Italy. A citrus, aromatic scent, this is compared to a woman who is strong, dignified and a free spirit, but in perfect harmony with nature. This is a light scent yet lasts all day, I think this is probably best in the summer months, yet it does still work in the winter since it isn't an overly “summer” smell.
Top Notes: Amalfi Lemon, Mint.
Middle Notes: Jasmine, Pink Pepper, Peony.
Base Notes: French Labdanum, Virginia Cedar, Sugar.
Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium- This scent is a warm mix of vanilla and coffee. Released in the fall of 2014 it was the new “rock and roll” reinterpretation of their classic Opium, but highlights the dark, mysterious side of the brand. This is like a warmer, deeper take on Hynose in my own thoughts, not something I would grab for automaticlally in the summer but an easy choice for the fall and winter. This one is nostalgic but with a pop of adulthood in it.
Top Notes: Pink Pepper, Orange Blossom, Pear.
Middle Notes: Coffee, Jasmine, Bitter Almond, Licorice.
Base Notes: Vanilla, Patchouli, Cedar, Cashmere Wood.
Lancome La Vie Est Belle Eau de Toilette Florale- Another new release, slowly hitting the market starting in early 2016, this is a luminous floral and fruity fragrance. Florale is the newest reinterpretation of Lancome's classic La Vie Est Belle, being a more floral interpretation as the name implies. This one just got to my store so I haven't gotten too into the scent yet but I have been enjoying it so far. I can see this one creeping it's way up higher on this list, especially in the spring when I will want more light, floral scents.
Top Notes: Bergamot, Pink Pepper, Freesia, Currant Buds.
Middle Notes: Osmanthus, Jasmine, Rose, Mimosa, Orange Blossom, Magnolia, Violet.
Base Notes: Amberwood, Patchouli, Iris, Musk.
Going through this I thought it would be interesting to see which notes repeat in different perfumes. I had more consistency that I had thought at the start to be honest. Here's them all ranked from most repeats to least.
Jasmine (X6), Orange (X4), Patchouli (X4), Cedar (X3), Vanilla (X3), Pink Pepper (X3), Pear (X2), Bergamot (X2), Musk (X2),Peony (X2).
Overall I am very glad that I have gotten into perfumes, and am very grateful I have a job that gives me such a wide access to all sorts of them. Perhaps this will be a reoccurring post, I'm sure my favorites will evolve with time, so I'll probably do this once a year, so I guess I'll see you then to see how my tastes have changed!
